Excellent and very true. Is it just my genetics or do any other 40+ guys start getting a couple of eyebrow hairs that don't stop growing. I gotta remember to trim them every so often, before they become obviously twice as long as anything around them.

No, seriously - the first time waxing something is hellish, the second time a little less, and the third time is only purgatory. Plus, it grows back soft - unlike razored prickles. Shave if you're a model and nobody will be touching you more than 6 hours post-shave.

Arguments for having a friend (or heck, an enemy) do it are that the right wax makes a huge difference (salons insist on their own favorite system, often not what's best for your skin type). Almost as important, at home you can ingest appropriate pain-reduction tablets, liquids etc. beforehand and not have to worry about getting home.

Thankfully I don't suffer from an enormous amount of back hair (minus the little bit that grows on my lower back)

I would say the less painful method would be to find someone to just shave it off for you with a regular razor - sure it's gonna grow back quicker, but if you've ever waxed anything, then you know it's not exactly the most pleasant experience.

What about back hair? And I have a personal rule that I think every single teenage boy should follow: Don't even bother growing facial hair until you're at least 18. You're not foolin' anyone.

@Sarah - I think that topic will be covered in an entry of its own.

@Pablo - ex-wives come in handy for reasonably-priced waxing.

Every few months I have to wrestle my husband to the ground to tame his wild unibrow. I once told him that I would withhold certain things from him until he let me pluck him and make him look decent and less scary looking. What's worse is that he actually had to think about it for a minute or two. Eventually he opted for the tweezers.

What do you do for your back hair? Do you go to a waxer or something? Or do you look in the mirror, pulling them out one by one. Just curious.

Heh, this is awesome. I haven't invested in any rotary trimmers for my nose yet. I actually use the scissors on my Gerber multi-tool (to make the process a little more macho). I probably won't be as brave when I reach 45 and need to trim my ears though.
