Life of Riley Week 14
The Life of Riley is a weekly post that details my activities since I ended a thirteen year career as a corporate drone. These posts are usually long, personal, and geared more for my own memory than the reader’s entertainment.
Sunday (Day 91)
Made #1GF! watch the craptastic North Shore, which was one of my favorite movies as a teenager. Watched movies and sat around until we were supposed to go to #1GF!’s brother’s house for dinner. We ended up taking part in the rescue of some kayakers that were stuck under a bridge.
Monday (Day 92)
Went to the beach, and then came home to watch some movies. Saw an old friend that took sides with my ex-wife in our divorce walking down the beach. He saw me and turned around and walked the other way. That was odd, but not entirely unexpected.
Tuesday (Day 93)
Wrote half the day, and caught up on my reading on the other half.
Wednesday (Day 94)
Made little diagrams and wrote about Kubb all day.
Thursday (Day 95)
Got up and thought it was Wednesday. I laughed at #1GF! for thinking it was Thursday. When she opened her blackberry, her mail was opened to Wednesday, and when I saw it, I actually jumped up and said, “Ha! Wednesday. Who’s the granny now? Yeaaaaaa, biotch!” #1GF! calmly got out of her mail to show me a calendar indicated that it indeed was Thursday. I deservedly got called a dumb grandpa hobo biotch. I then spent half the day putting together a FineTune Friday post out that I thought I had two days to get to.
I worked on advertising and added a few different ad placements to see if what performs the best. Currently there are two link, two image, and a text skyscraper. Because #1GF! went out, I didn’t get the normal 6PM stop signal and ended up working on the site for 14 hours.
Friday (Day 96)
Turned on the a/c for the first time in a week as the temperatures hit 90 degrees. Read a lot of articles. Added a “My del.icio.us Links” to my sidebar. If you want to know all the bizarre stuff that I find on the web on a daily basis, this is where you should be looking. Was supposed to go out to dinner and a movie with a couple of #1GF!’s friends, but ended up just talking the night away and eating pizza at their kitchen table at around 10 PM. I would rather have four hours of laughter than two staring at a movie screen any day. I introduced them to farecast.com (an airfare prediction site) and rocklighter.com (a working bic lighter to be displayed on the cell phone of the modern concert goer), and they gave me hours of laughs. I think I got the better end of the deal.
Saturday (Day 97)
Discovered Fox Reality Channel and watched dating shows until it was time to go to the beach. Went to the beach and tried to create some entertaining sand drawings like being thrown under a bus, but failed miserably. None of them were funny. I came up with the idea of just writing dyers.org on the beach to see if it did anything, but gave up on the idea. Got bored but not burned. Went to wal-mart and then out to dinner. Dinner felt like being on vacation for some reason.
What I Learned
- I have no sense of time.
- I have no sense of empathy, but I still like to help.
- Learned how to place adds and track them.
- I can now make diagrams for yard games.
