Cowbell Relapse

A couple of days ago, I posted about how I was invited to set up a cowbell station on Lala. What I should’ve done is taken a minute to reflect upon what an all-consuming beast the pursuit of cowbell tracks was at this time last year, and just said, “No thank you. I don’t do cowbell.”

But, I didn’t. I just picked up a couple of tracks for a kick. Then, I added a couple more, thinking, “I can stop anytime.” Within minutes I was taking hits off of any bell-shaped website, and snorting cowbells off google like Robin Williams circa 1983. When I came around, I found that I had blown another four hours on the damned thing, neglecting anything and everything that I had planned to get done. I am now up to 5 hours of straight, hot, cross-genre cowbell action, and I’m right on the edge of running down the street naked with my hair on fire. It’s time for me to stop getting high off my own supply.

For tonight, anyway.

If you’ve got the fever, tune in to MORE COWBELL!.

If you would like to see a running list of the tunes, check the five hour playlist that I dredged up.

Remember, the first one is on the house.

i feel that i am responsible for this addiction. if i hadn’t challenged you a year ago to make me one cd where every track contained cowbell. i should have seen your cry for help when you produced, not one, but six cds full of cowbell. how can i help???

Cowbell? I’m listing now. But I don’t hear it yet. Sounds like old Too Short.

Photogal (who spins around town as DJ Cowbell) and I both give this a big ol’ thumbs up!

  4. Jon Says:

Gracias, Mr. and Ms DJ Cowbell!

Sometimes the Sugarhill gang track loads the wrong track and it sounds like old Too short.

And when the heck are you guys joining up? Or do you get all your junk for free?

I get most of my stuff for free nowadays, so I’m ineligible for lala for the most part. I did sign up though, in case I start unloading my backlog of a couple thousand CDs.

On the plus side, it’s opened up my wallet and allowed me to pick up more books than I used to. Libraries are great, but there’s just something about a full bookshelf populated with books I’ve enjoyed that makes me happy.

Kind of like a wall or two of CDs / records.

Or, maybe I’m just a pack rat minus the creepy alleyways built out of three year-old newspapers.

I feel like my holiday is complete now considering it was just a little under a year ago that my world was graced with the first installation of cowbell madness!

Hmmm, I think Jon should come to Chicago and guest DJ with Tankboy/Photogal at the Pontiac Cafe….an all Cowbell night! But that kind of night deserves the cost-effective $3 Lone Stars to go with the mighty gong of the cowbell.

Club DJ’ing is a lot different from radio DJ’ing. While I appreciate the vote of confidence, I’m just not worthy…

Ah to have a backlog of CDs that I didn’t pay for again… I’m greener than the grinch.
