You Can’t Stop Time or Music
Time switch
The days when we were a Commonwealth of farmers is long gone, as is the need for daylight savings time. Sure it’s nice to have the sun up until 8:30PM, but it’s not so nice when you forget to eat dinner because the sun is artificially floated past its bed time. Why we still do it is beyond me.
One good thing about the change is that as some people’s resident geek in charge, I get to swoop in and readjust various complex time keeping instruments such as VCRs and TVs. This year, I was as useless as the Maytag repair man. Technology is somehow becoming more user friendly, putting clock setters out of work. The only clocks that I officially had to change were the clocks in two cars. Each required exactly 2 button pushes and required no large manual to dust off and peruse before learning some bizarre combination such as throwing the car into neutral, turning on the hazard lights, and opening the glove box one time for each hour to advance. Two buttons. Push. Push. Done. What the hell is that?
Very disappointing indeed.
The End of Music
The Interesting position that Massachusetts rep. Steve Tobin has regarding the revocation of your online rights in favor of the corporate profit was picked up by the UK’s Register, saying almost precisely what I said about this (Massachusetts Bill 2743) on April 2nd. If the UK is picking up a local issue, you can bet that it’s probably a big deal, and maybe you should send a letter to Quincy’s Mr. Tobin and let him know that you are not in favor of his pro-business, anti-consumer stance.
The Start of Music
I have CDs and computer parts all over my floor that, to the untrained observer, would look like an obtrusive, uncomfortable pile of crap. This is to the untrained, of course. To the trained eye, it’s a little slice of heaven. Because of my tinkering, and the return of my CDs from storage, I am embarking on an endeavor to digitize the whole goddamned ball of wax. Every CD is going to the drive, for the ultra mega hyper super jukebox that I always wanted.
My two trusty little PCs are the equivalent of a Pinto and a Gremlin, and they are chugging along churning 3 CD drives worth of CDs out about 5 hours a day. The good news, I’m not even close to done. The bad news: I’m not even close to done. I really should’ve started with Jazz and worked my way outward, but I’m not much of a planner. Once they’re all on the drive, it will be time to invest in a drive for backup, and possibly a new PC for the ultra mega hyper super jukebox/entertainment PC of my dreams. But, that will be then. This is now. And the now is a mess.
Crap Hell Crap
It’s supposed to snow tonight. I don’ see no stinkin’ snow…
